Terms and acceptable use
Not yet an approved external-user policy. This draft describes the intended boundary for the current operator-validation account and any later invitation-only pilot. It remains subject to institutional, legal, privacy, security, and operational review.
Purpose
OS-ERIN is an experimental scholarly-review demonstrator.
It supports:
- citation-grounded reading;
- source inspection;
- reviewer-selected passages;
- claim-level assessment;
- recording confidence and concern;
- provenance and revision;
- recovery and export of review work.
It is not:
- a production archive;
- an automated peer reviewer;
- a misconduct detector;
- a ranking service;
- a truth engine;
- an approved basis for consequential decisions.
Authorised uploads
The current operator-validation account—and any later authorised invited user—may upload or select a manuscript or cited work only when authorised to process it within the demonstrator.
Users must not upload material where processing is prohibited by:
- confidentiality obligations;
- copyright or database rights;
- licence conditions;
- contractual restrictions;
- personal-data restrictions;
- research-ethics requirements;
- institutional rules.
Permission to read or possess a document does not necessarily establish permission to upload, extract, store, annotate, or share it through the demonstrator.
Reviewer responsibility
Parser, retrieval, model, and provider outputs are candidate material. They are not accepted scholarly truth.
Reviewers remain responsible for:
- inspecting the relevant source;
- deciding which claim is under assessment;
- deciding which passage is relevant;
- accepting, rejecting, or editing proposed relationships;
- recording their own reasons;
- distinguishing evidence from interpretation;
- describing uncertainty honestly;
- correcting their records when warranted.
Failure to locate evidence means only that evidence was not found through the available process. It must not be represented automatically as evidence that no such material exists.
Prohibited use
- Do not attempt to access another user’s or project’s private material.
- Do not share accounts, credentials, tokens, session cookies, or invitation links intended for another person.
- Do not bypass authentication or authorisation.
- Do not probe or access internal services.
- Do not overload the service or submit malicious content.
- Do not attempt to extract other users’ documents or review records.
- Do not use the demonstrator for employment, funding, disciplinary, high-stakes, or formal research-assessment decisions.
- Do not represent experimental outputs as institutional, editorial, or EOSC conclusions.
- Do not treat machine-generated proposals as reviewer-authored assessments.
- Do not use OS-ERIN records to construct unauthorised reputation, integrity, reliability, or truth scores.
Availability and access
The demonstrator may be changed, paused, reset, restricted, or withdrawn for research, operational, legal, privacy, security, or funding reasons.
Access may be limited or terminated where use is:
- unauthorised;
- unsafe;
- disruptive;
- outside the agreed demonstrator purpose;
- inconsistent with these draft conditions;
- inconsistent with institutional or project requirements.
The demonstrator does not guarantee preservation, continuous availability, or production-level service continuity.
